GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE
(11/05) Are you interested in a graduate degree studying large pelagics and doing it for "free"? Apply for one of the many graduate fellowships available at UNH, including ones sponsored by the Large Pelagic Research Center. Visit the Marine Program home page for details and an application. Application Deadline is February 3rd, 2006.
TAG-A-TINY
(10/05) Researchers from the University of New Hampshire, Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries in collaboration with tuna fisherman successfully implanted 98 juvenile bluefin tuna with archival tags. BLUEFIN TUNA QUALITY IN DECLINE
(08/05) Walter Golet (Supervisor M. Lutcavage) and Andy Cooper's research on the quality of bluefin tuna is featured in the August issue of the Commercial Fisheries News and the August 22nd edition of the Portland Press Herald. The analysis of grading records kept by Bob Campbell, Yankee Fishermen's Co-op in Seabrook, NH shows a dramatic decrease in bluefin tuna quality over the past 14 years. REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
(06/05) The Large Pelagics Research Center announces its inaugural Request for Proposals . The Center will fund up to 2.2 million dollars in extramural research that leads to the development of essential new technologies and tools to advance the science and management of large pelagic species.
JUVENILE BLUEFIN TUNA WORKSHOP
(03/05) The Large Pelagics Research Center & Laboratory hosted a Workshop on Juvenile Atlantic Bluefin Tuna: New approaches for Assessment. International researchers from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean meet at the University of New Hampshire to discuss existing data and data gaps as well as develop a list of research priorities.
